Blue Knight Project - Beginnings

The concept of Blue Knight was conceived in 1998 when I was 18 years old, fresh faced, full of dreams and high hopes for the future.

The original concept for this was a passion project filled with giving, helping, loving, fun, smiles and community.

20 years later I have had to accept that my Passion Project, Dream and Goal is just not one that is not achievable in my life time, not for me.

I have decided instead to write about what the project would have been, could have been and hopefully inspire someone to take steps I am not able to.

I'll always hold thumbs and pray that one day I am able to hear of my Concept being the success I know it will be.

Beginnings:

As a young girl growing up in a household of girly girls and always being the rebel I always gravitated to any colour other than pink. I was obsessed with blue. All shades of blue.
I loved what Blue could stand for being sad. I love that the ocean was blue. The sky was blue. I knew that blue was a calming colour before I knew how to read.
Thus Blue was the obvious choice for me to put in my passion project.

The second part 'Knight' came about later by total fluke.
I loved that fact that the Knight is a chess piece... I chess piece that I am still useless using yet is ALWAYS left on the board when I play. That sneaky little bugger ALWAYS manages to escape capture - I digress.
I loved that 'knight' is pronounced night and that it will mean i have to say 'k' out loud - 'k-night' when I speak to people. It's a simple thing but it makes me smile and I want to make people smile this is what all this is for.
Was for.
Knight also refers to old English tales, castles and swords. A knight is a noble hero, someone that helps and has honour. Why not knight.

So over 3 years of mulling it over, it always remained Blue Knights.

So in October 1998 while selling jigsaw puzzles Blue Knights was born in my brain and spread like wildfire through my entire being and was forever imprinted in my life.

It is remarkable how significant that Month ended up being later in my life and still continues to be.

20 Years ago I created a concept and attached a name to that concept

20 Year later I give away my concept in the hope that someone else understands my vision

Officially a start

Officially getting Blue Knight up and running and excited and nervous about the future. The most important part of this entire process is that everything we embark on ends up being helpful to those who need it. So it is important to explain the concept and the meaning of Blue Knight and why the name is so important to me. Blue: Colour is associated with Autism Knight: The chess piece moves in the most obscure way, just as all kids on the spectrum think differently. It also defines the strength, bravery and relentless natures of parents. Keep in touch on Facebook as we walk this journey. Janine Simone  Blue Knight Founder

The Blue Knight need

It's been months since my first post. Yet again my project has evolved and transformed. It's become evident that there is a lack of understanding and support not just in Cape Town, where we live, but in my country. South Africa is one of the most diverse countries in the world but still lacking in structure. The lack of support and understanding in South Aftica of Autism has challenged me. I want to find parents of ASD children and find out how they do it. I find the we, as the parents, of these children are the Knights in their lives and fittingly the colour of #autism awareness is blue. It seems fitting the this concept that developed over years of dreaming and thinking should come to this amalgamation of idea. It has become abundantly clear to me that i am surely not the only person that would require the need for talking, brainstorming and sometime venting. Funds for support are never there. Finding like minded parents are far and few between yet every second perso...
